The relationship between a PC gamer and his mouse is a sacred one, which is why the release of Windows 8.1 is causing a virtual nightmare to unfold. Apparently the updated OS has tinkered where it shouldn’t.
Something has altered in how 8.1 updates where the cursor is on screen, meaning games that don’t take direct raw input from the mouse are suffering terrible cursor-jumping lag.
Titles said to be affected include Call of Duty, and sniggering aside, it should also be noted that among the afflicted are Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Metro 2033.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is also reportedly hit by the cursor blight of 8.1. Reddit users have come up with a flimsy Band-Aid for this gusher of a wound but ultimately it needs a solution from Microsoft, or a downgrade to Windows 8 or 7… or Vista, or XP, or 2000, or 98 SE, or 95 IE, or DOS.
