Microsoft has announced that Kinect 2.0, which is bundled with Xbox One, will be also be available for PC users. Kinect program manager Scott Evans stated, ”We will bring this to PC. We will have more information soon.”
While Kinect has had mixed success with the Xbox 360, the device has been an absolute boon to PC users who exploited its capabilities in robotics and surgery, while PC users have found ways to use the device that Microsoft - which was initially opposed to it being modded to work on PC - was surprised by, leading to the publisher releasing a Kinect SDK.
The Kinect 2.0 hardware will have finer recognition tools and vastle reduced lag - it’ll be interesting to see what kind of new apps PC indie devs will invent for the device.
