It has been announced through Chart-Track that the FIFA franchise is the first video game series to collectively attain £1bn at UK retail. It did so spread across 40 released FIFA titles.
FIFA 12 and FIFA 13 alone contributed around £200m to the staggering figure. The second and third top video game grossing properties are Call of Duty and Mario respectively.
Over £800m has been generated from Activision’s FPS King, Call of Duty, with 19 titles to its name. It should be noted that Chart-Track doesn’t calculate in DLC sales.
The records from Chart-Track begin in 1996, meaning a number of FIFA and Mario titles haven’t been included in the grand tally. The incredibly lucrative sale of DLC for both FIFA and Call of Duty also means these figures are rather conservative to the actual figures of what each has brought in through sales in the UK alone.
