Despite the very rocky launch, the new SimCity managed to clear 2 million copies in sales thanks to an ”enormous number of loyal fans,” attributed EA’s Frank Gibeau.
Most recently Maxis released Update 7.0 which implemented some significant ‘traffic tuning’ by altering how Sims get to and from their destinations.
”In retrospect, our biggest takeaway is that we are lucky that SimCity has an enormous number of loyal fans,” said Gibeau. ”That first week after launch was really rough - an experience nobody wants to live through again.”
”We’ve sold more than two million units, and the number of people logging in and playing is holding steady. SimCity is a success. However, underestimating demand in the first month was a major miss. We hope that the game and the service we’ve provided since then meets the fans’ high standards.”
Since launch Maxis has produced DLC adding an amusement park, rigid airship transports, houses of worship, and introduced road raising and lower tools for bridges, tunnels and overpasses.
