Slitherine’s turn-based strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon is on the way later this year, and it’s just about to kick off a beta phase.
You can sign up now to take part, giving you an early chance to check out how Slitherine deal with 40k’s particular brand of all-out warfare.
Armageddon takes place on the planet of the same name, during the Second War for Armageddon - basically one of the biggest, bloodiest battles that’s ever taken place in the Warhammer universe. You can choose to lead either the Imperial Guard troops of the Armageddon Steel Legion or various chapters of Space Marines (obviously) against the shootin’ and lootin’ Ork hordes.
Combat is hex-based and turn-based, and looks a bit like Heroes of Might & Magic II or III to me, oddly enough. Slitherine promise a bunch of different units, heroes and battlefields, with individual troops that gain experience and continue across into subsequent battles. For fans of the setting, the developers also say that this is an in-depth look at the battle itself, from initial skirmishes to its apocalyptic final stages.
Difficult to tell if Armageddon will be a decent addition to the decidedly mixed history of 40k video games, but you can sign up for the beta on the game’s official website to be in with a chance of checking it out.
