Hey everybody, who’s up for another MOBA? Okay, so actually Deadhold is described as a ”squad-based action real time strategy game”, but looking at the conceptual video - the game’s in the very early days of production right now - it’s clear what the influences are.
It’s being developed by an as yet unnamed studio that apparently includes developers who’ve previously worked on the Borderlands series, Battlefield 2, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Homefront, and Myth 3.
As you can see the basic combat resembles a MOBA, but instead of one character you control a small group of soldiers. You’d imagine that would make for a more complicated, fiddly experience, but the developers describe the game as “easy to play and hard to master”. Instead of piling a bunch of treasures and skills upgrades on a single hero, you’ll be unlocking new skills and abilities for your omnipotent Commander. Several different unit types and troop formations are promised.
Hard to judge to much from this prototype video, but it’s encouraging to see a team come at the overloaded MOBA genre from a slightly new angle. The game’s fantasy world is Norse-inspired, so expect to see rampaging trolls, ice giants and burly beserkers in the final game.
Again, this is a title that’s some way away from completion. Expect more information to creep out over the coming months.
