Probably due to the recent re-release on Xbox 360, GTA: San Andreas has been updated on Steam. That should be good news. The only small problem is that it’s removing a bunch of features and creating a whole load of new issues.
PCGamesN report that old saves have been overwritten and no longer work, 1080p and HD resolutions have been removed, and 17 songs have been stripped from the game’s soundtrack.
The disappearing music is most likely down to licensing issues. Lost songs include ’Killing in the Name’ and ’Express Yourself’; the fact that you can no longer cruise around San Andreas county with those two classics blasting on the boombox removes about 75% of the fun from the game.
Xbox 360 controller support has been added, though…. so, you know… every cloud and all that. In all seriousness this is pretty bad for owners of the game. Fans are working on a patch to restore some of the cut content, but in the meantime it’s advised to not update your version if at all possible. Which it probably isn’t really, unless you catch the game mid-update.
The sad fact is that unless fans can come up with some inventive solutions, you’re probably stuck with this new, hobbled version. Rockstar has yet to make a statement regarding the new update.
