Developer Monolith has released a new trailer at E3, explaining Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’s intriguing Nemesis System in greater detail.
The system creates a huge cast of orcs and goblins, each with their own weaknesses, strengths and specialties. Each time they encounter main character Talion they’ll come away changed by the experience - should they land a killing blow against him, for example, they’ll be more powerful when you next meet, even bringing up their previous victory while taunting you in combat.
My favourite part is how awesome all the unique enemy generals look. Monolith has really nailed the style of the movie’s orcs, all jagged armour, menacing leers and beady eyes.
Talion can dominate these villains using his strange wraith powers, facing them off against each other in skirmishes for control of Mordor. Eventually he’ll grow an army capable of facing down even Suaron himself. Yeah, forget about the lore and just go with it.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is coming to PC and consoles on October 7.
