Riot Games might be hard at work redoing the entire League of Legends lore, but they’ve still got time to pump out new events, modes and maps.
‘Shurima’ introduces an all new desert continent, which is home to new champion Azir and a brand new game mode called Ascension.
Ascension moves LoL’s brand of team-based combat out of the woods and into the desert, where your task is to capture relics of the ancient desert empire of Shurima. Two five player teams face off in an arena with a big old magical Ancient in the middle. Killing this Ancient with the final blow causes the lucky player to Ascend, becoming more powerful at the cost of reduced healing and a marker that tags you on the map for all enemies.
Along with the new mode and Azir the summoner, the Shurima update adds a bunch of desert-themed costumes for established heroes. You can check those out here.
The event is live now, and lasts until September 21.
