Refract Studios has released a new Beta update for Distance, its arcade racer set in a strange virtual world that looks a bit like those bike bits from Tron.
Beta build 3153 adds four new Challenge mode levels, a procedurally generated spectator mode, faster level restarting, and a bunch of other tweaks and fixes.
Rather than just boring old driving, Distance’s cars let you boost, jump, rotate and fly across a neon cityscape. Refract calls it a ”survival racing game”, by which they mean it’s just as much about exploring the city as it is about beating your friends. Distance is actually a remake of indie title Nitronic Rush, which was created by Refract while they were studying at university - this version adds a bigger open world, a level editor, more music and multiplayer, among other things.
The game’s been in private Beta since last month, but pre-ordering from the official website will net you access to the current build. If you’d rather wait, it’s coming to Steam in the Fall. Are we in Fall right now? I have no idea. Anyway it’s coming soon.
