It Came From The Desert is a 1989 action adventure game by Cinemaware about fending off giant, mutated ants. In the weirdest news of the day, it’s also going to be a feature film.
Cinemaware has teamed up with Roger! Pictures to bring this classic tale to the big screen. It’s currently in pre-production, with more information regarding production details and… ‘plot’ on the way in January.
You can check out a let’s play of It Came From The Desert above (courtesy of World of Longplays). And wonder exactly what the hell a film version of this is going to look like. Expect a comedic homage to the best of 1950s B-movie sci-fi, bad prosthetics and a charmingly miniscule budget. The original game has you play as Greg Bradley, a geologist living in the remote town of Lizard Breath in the United States. A comet hits, mutated ants appear, and you have to get rid of them. It’s a classic tale told throughout human history.
“After cleaning Lizard Breath of ants many years ago,” says Cinemaware’s spokesperson Dr. Wells, “it’s great to see that a film inspired by the events transpired in our little town will tell our story to the wide world out there. Maybe this film will ensure our government pays more attention to what goes on here.”
