Oh what a time to be alive, fellow space-sim fans! Not only do we have No Man’s Sky on the horizon and Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen inching closer to release, but Enemy Starfighter is looking like the real deal, too.
The promising title is coming to PAX Prime this month, and developer Marauder Interactive has released a new gameplay trailer to tease its appearance.
Marauder’s fast-paced dogfighter is a more colourful, stylised affair than most of its peers (though it has more than a bit of No Man’s Sky to it in terms of visuals), with an aesthetic that recalls the beautiful art style of the Homeworld RTS games. Those smooth geometric starships, space stations and asteroids also remind me of genre classic TIE Fighter, otherwise known as the greatest game ever made. God, if we got a new version of that I think I’d explode.
PAX kicks off this August 29. Enemy Starfighter will be playable in virtual reality form at the Indie Megabooth, which won’t be a surprise to anyone. Space sim developers are all over the Oculus and other VR headsets right now. We’ll see more of it there.
