The Red Solstice is an eight-player co-op game set on Mars, where you and your friends take on the role of burly space marine types with a penchant for heavy weaponry, tasked with cleansing the planet of unpleasant alien critters.
The Early Access shooter has just received a new update titled ’Pitch Black’, which features a new industrial themed map, four new missions and an overhaul of several combat skills for the various classes.
The new map isn’t actually named in the update notes, but it’s set in an industrial complex and is made up from several narrow corridors and a central defensive position. Sounds like exactly the sort of place you should be getting eviscerated by aliens in. To make things a little more hectic, monsters move 10% faster on the new map.
New missions include restarting failed reactors, defending a gate from mass alien swarms, dealing with hacked turrets, and containing major infestations. These all tie in to the game’s randomly assigned objectives and missions.
Other changes include a new burst fire option for your trusty pistol (replacing an aim function no-one ever used), an improved prologue mission to make learning the game’s mechanics easier, sound engine changes and fixes to issues caused by the previous introduction of HDR visual effects.
Incidentally, developer Ironware has discounted the game by 50% on Steam as part of the current Winter sale which has already claimed thousands upon thousands of lives.
