Another day, another Kickstarter campaign. This one’s for Sienna Storm, which sounds a bit like the name of a porn star, but is apparently a ”unique interactive comic-style videogame” from developer Digital Knights.
The team behind the project is comprised of veteran devs who’ve previously worked on games like Deus Ex and Neverwinter Nights 2, so there’s some pedigree here.
It’s an odd-sounding project. It’s essentially an interactive comic, within which you can deploy a selection of cards representing your equipment, intelligence and skills. ”Fluid situations are executed via an innovative card game mechanic that actuates the intel, gear, and skills you’ve gathered throughout the game,” explain Digital Knights. ”Persuasion is just as important as deduction in this sociopolitical thriller, in which the crucial moves in a dangerous multipolar world truly lie in your hands.”
Apparently the game will offer ”an engaging non-linear story set in modern day that has a variety of outcomes based on your decisions and actions.” The pitch video is interesting, but doesn’t really go into to much detail on how the basic gameplay works - the focus here is definitely on the story. Which is no bad thing, but you might want to hold out on backing the project until we see more.
The Sienna Storm Kickstarter runs until September 18. It’s currently raised just over $4,500 from a $179,000 goal.
