Indie studio Inglenook is six days into their Kickstarter for Witchmarsh, a side-scrolling action-RPG set in the pixel glory of 1920s America. We run a team of investigators tackling supernatural mysteries.
Chucklefish Games, creator of Starbound, will publish Witchmarsh which aims for a 2015 release on PC and Mac, but if the mega bucks roll in it could slip to 2016. It’s asking for £50k.
It’s not far off with over £36k having been pledged by almost 2,000 backers. It has 24 days left before the Kickstarter wraps up, and Inglenook has some ambitious stretch goals.
Ideally they’d like to push for around £175k as they’d have enough to flesh the action-RPG out more, but it would mean a delay on the final release to add all those extra ”animations, cutscenes, dialogue trees and easter eggs.” In Witchmarsh we manage a team of detectives out of Massachusetts uncovering mysteries in rural America.
”Witchmarsh puts a side-scrolling spin on classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Wizardry, without compromising on depth. The game features online multiplayer, extensive character creation, countless ability and item combinations, and rewarding boss encounters,” blurbs the Kickstarter campaign. It’s sporting a pixel art style that’s hard not to like.
