Crate Entertainment’s action RPG Grim Dawn will have a very early version of its multiplayer component available to play “within the next two to four weeks”.
The developers are keen to note that this is a ”play at your own risk” build, with the potential for major bugs including possible save game corruption. Yikes.
”We now have people running around in multiplayer testing all the functionality and looking for those pesky bugs that can ruin your fun,” writes Crate employee Zantai in a forum update. ”We are getting close but there is still some work to be done before it can be released. This includes finalizing some of the multiplayer UI elements and tracking down and fixing some of the more serious bugs, such as those that could potentially corrupt your character save data.”
”Once the major issues are taken care of, we will release it in a “play at your own risk” state for those who want to be the first to try it out and help identify any remaining issues. We are now in a process of making fixes and retesting until we can verify the major bugs have been worked out. We expect multiplayer will be ready within the next two weeks.”
Grim Dawn is a gritty fantasy hack-and-slasher with more than a hint of Warhammer Fantasy about it. It’s created by a team that includes several members from Iron Lore, the developer behind the often-overlooked ARPG Titan Quest. Like that game Grim Dawn has a dual-class system which allows you two dip into the skill trees from two different classes - if it works anything like Titan Quest it offers a bunch more customisation than similar games usually do.
You can also expect a gory combat system with plenty of blood and guts, a refined loot system and faction-based quest-lines with choices and consequences.
Grim Dawn is currently available on Steam Early Access, where it’s been brewing along nicely since November 2013.
