West Games, a new studio founded by former members of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. creators GSC World and 4A Games, are creating what they describe as ”the definitive spiritual successor” to the cult post apocalyptic shooter.
Project Areal will be West Games’ first title, set in a huge open world filled with a variety of mutated creatures intent on eating your eyeballs for dinner.
”Ultimately, Areal is the culmination of everything that we want to see from a post apocalyptic game, and it’s something that we can realize with full creative freedom because of the unique platform that is Kickstarter,” the team wrote on the title’s Kickstarter page.
Areal will be a shooter with light RPG mechanics, set in a devastated Earth ravaged by ”an unearthly material called Metamorphite”, which has warped the local flora and fauna into bizarre and dangerous monstrosities. Alongside weapon customisation, unlockable traits and a non-linear story that adapts to your choices, the game will also feature a system called ‘X-Life’, which governs the way in which the world reacts to your presence.
“Accidental encounters with mutants and other foes brings new and completely dynamic combat situations that always differ from one another. This system dictates how enemies move and how they react within various environmental circumstances. With the help of X-life, enemies will move throughout various terrain obstacles with ease and extreme realism. They will dynamically adjust their play-style, combat characteristics and armor to suit the conditions that they are in,” West Games explains.
The developers are hoping to raise $50,000 via the campaign, which features the usual list of pledge level rewards for those that donate above a certain amount. It runs until July 24.
