Petroglyph’s sci-fi RTS Grey Goo will be released via Steam on January 23, the developers have announced. A new developer diary video has also been posted, explaining the intention behind releasing earlier than anticipated.
The team says that they decided to skip an extended Beta testing phase in order to “get Grey Goo into your hands and onto your computer as soon as possible.”
Grey Goo is a fast-paced RTS that keep most of the combat mechanics of the genre, but attempts to strip out complex micro-management in favour of tactical decisions and base-building elements. It’s going to launch with a solo campaign featuring three races, as well as competitive multiplayer with ranked and unranked matches, leaderboards and all that good stuff.
Petroglyph’s team includes formers developers from titles such as Dune II, Command and Conquer, and Empire at War. so there’s definitely some RTS pedigree here.
The studio promises more information on the game’s intricacies in the run-up to launch.
