Basingstoke is a town in England, for those of you not from the UK. It is a grim and terrible place. Developer Puppy Games knows this, which is why they’ve set their new “roguelike survival horror” game there.
Called Basingstoke, fittingly enough, the game tasks you with escaping the town, evading hordes of creepy monsters that want to eat you along the way.
“It’s roguelike in two senses,” writes Cas from Puppy Games, “which are: that when you die, that’s it, game over; and each game has randomly generated levels. The levels are made up of a number of randomly selected prefabricated sections joined together cunningly to create a mix of familiar and unfamiliar.”
The team are taking the rogue-like elements pretty seriously too. “You’re definitely going to die”, Cas rather bluntly writes. Basingstoke is due out early next year. The developers say they’ll be posting regular updates regarding the game’s development.
