There’s ”a lot of upside” to BioShock, says CEO Strauss Zelnick, and it ”hasn’t necessarily been realized yet.” 2K Marin was behind BioShock 2, a direct sequel.
This follows the news that Red Dead Redemption is to be considered a ”permanent franchise” in Take-Two’s catalogue, with something cooking over at Rockstar Games.
”We think it’s important and certainly something that we’re focused on; something 2K Marin will be responsible for shepherding going forward,” Zelnick said during the Cowen and Company analyst conference. “I think there’s a lot of upside in that franchise. It hasn’t necessarily been realized yet. And the question for the future, assuming we decide to answer the question, would be ‘How do you stay true to that creatively?’”
Ken Levine abruptly announced that Irrational Games would be ‘winding down’ to just 15 developers following the release of BioShock Infinite’s two episodic DLCs, with the now much smaller studio focusing on ”narrative-driven games” releasing exclusively through digital channels. Levine called it a ”more entrepreneurial endeavor” for Irrational.
