Phoenix Online Studios has released a brand, spanking new trailer for Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition, showing off the game’s new visual style.
It… looks a bit like The Sims, actually. Which I wasn’t expecting. I’m not totally sure this new engine captures the same sense of charm as the pixel graphics of Jane Jensen’s original game, but we’ll see.
It’s clear that the team are putting a lot of effort into this remastered edition though, and the talking heads that pop up from various indie studios show that there’s still a lot of affection for the cult 1993 adventure game.
”Gabriel Night was a huge influence on The Longest Journey,” says fellow adventure game creator Ragnar Tørnquist, ”both in terms of the maturity of it and in the sense of its dark, modern fantasy story. It really made me feel like you can do games like that, you can tell interesting stories that aren’t just funny or cartoony, but they’re grown up and real, and they’re dark and they’re great.”
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition is coming this October 15.
