Layers of Fear is a horror game that focuses on the psychological; rather than playing as a grizzly soldier hacking zombies to death, you’re instead trapped in the mind of an insane painter, where your surroundings can twist and change with each turn of the camera.
Developed by the excellently named Bloober Team, whose most famous game was probably the first-person horror Scopophobia (which also toyed with the player’s vision, as they tried to outrun a fearsome basilisk), Layers of Fear aims to offer ”insight into the madness that entwines a human being.”
”Heavily inspired by the masterpiece paintings from the past centuries,” explains the team, ”and the architecture and décor from the XIX century. Layers of Fear is a truly unique experience, where each move of the camera can change your surroundings.
Layer by layer uncover the visions, fears and horrors that entwine the protagonist and finish the masterpiece he has strived so long to create.”
Layers of Fear will be available on August 27, though its not mentioned on which platforms it will be released. Keep an eye on the developer’s website for more.
