We’ve got an official release date for the Assassin’s Creed movie (yes, that’s still a thing that’s happening). According to the Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation directed by Aussie filmmaker Justin Kurzel and starring Michael Fassbender will hit cinemas on December 21 2016.
Assassin’s Creed has been in development hell for a few years, as Ubisoft went back and forth with first Sony, then current distributors 20th Century Fox on various aspects of production.
Now we know it’s actually happening. Exactly what aspect of the increasingly vast AC universe the film will cover isn’t clear, but here’s hoping that they reign in the sillier aspects of the franchisor. Genuinely, I couldn’t handle an entire film of Desmond Miles wandering around alien structures while a sarcastic British guy expositions at him.
The script, we do know, is being written by screenwriting duo Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, whose most recent work was on Ridley Scott’s camp biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings. I’m sure more information will begin to emerge over the coming months as production begins to grind into action.
Oh and Ubisoft? Please put these guys in the film. Cheers.
