Say, do you fancy watching eight minutes of developer Nival’s upcoming return to hectic WW2 strategy with Blitzkrieg 3? Well, here you go then. It appears that the series’ signature penchant for massed tank battles and pyrotechnics is present and correct.
The video walks us through basic tactical movement and combat, and provides ample proof of the dangers of absentmindedly crossing minefields. It’s all looking very promising as the game gears up for open beta next month.
Blitzkrieg 3 is something of a special interest case for me, because the original Blitzkrieg is a game I was majorly obsessed with growing up. It was the first RTS I really got hooked by, mainly because the scale of the carnage and the sheer number of units you could field seemed so impressive. Blitzkrieg 3 looks to maintain that sense of scale and spectacle.
What you see in the video above is the game’s take on multiplayer. Rather than traditional one versus one battles, each player designs and builds their own base, which is then controlled by the AI in what Nival calls “asynchronous multiplayer”. It means neither player will have to be online at the same time to play. There will also be solo campaigns available, if that’s more your cup of tea.
Blitzkrieg 3 is due to kick off an open beta stage next month. Keep an eye on the official website for more info.
