It might contain orks, trolls, giant spiders and all sorts of other entertaining fantasy nonsense, but Creative Assembly says that Total War: Warhammer is still a Total War game at heart.
Which sounds pretty self-explanatory; what the studio means is, though, that there will be no major changes to the series’ basic gameplay formula, and no attempt to directly emulate the tabletop game.
”Fundamentally it’s a Total War experience with Warhammer layered on top,” lead writer Andy Hall told PC Gamer. ”All Warhammer characters have a stat bar, which is very helpful for us—we never had anything telling us the stats of a Roman legionnaire!
”But we’re not literally taking stats, weapons skill, ballistic skill and so on into the game; we’re using parameters and the paradigm that already exists in Total War, while using the stats that Warhammer gives us and letting that influence everything in the background.”
Total War: Warhammer is set for release in 2016. Check out a hefty chunk of in-game footage here.
