Activision Blizzard has announced that it will be entering into several TV and film deals regarding several of its IPs. Activision Blizzard Studios is a new department within the company that will be carrying out its televised and theatrical projects.
The announcements were made during a press conference at Blizzcon. The studio said that there are already plans in the works for a Skylanders TV show in 2016 and Call of Duty films in 2018 or 2019. This is in addition to the fact that Activision Blizzard is already working with Legendary Pictures to produce the upcoming Warcraft movie.
Co-President of Activision Blizzard Studios, Nick Van Dyk offered some thoughts on the future of the studio, claiming that the Call of Duty movies in particular will deilver “action that fans expect from this franchise”.
“We’ll have a fraction of the overhead of the typical studio since we’re starting with a blank page and building an organization that is right-sized for our intended creative output and for the future of the industry,” continued Dyk.
The company is branching out quite a bit it would seem, having recently acquired Candy Crush developer King and moving into the eSports scene as well.
