Electronic Arts has admitted in an investor conference in Europe that Star Wars Battlefront was made for a more casual audience, and that the game isn’t as deep as experienced gamers would want.
According to EA’s chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen at the Nasdaq Investor Conference, the game was made so ”an 8-year-old could play with his father on the couch.” He went on to note, ”Star Wars Battlefront is a first-person shooter, but it is (one of) the only teen-rated first-person shooters. We had designed it to be a much more accessible product to a wide age group.”
This follows EA’s dismissal of GameStop’s statements that the game was underperforming in retail, partly saying the game would continue to sell thanks to the launch of The Force Awakens on December 15.
However, GameWatcher’s review criticized that the game had ”none of the depth that turns fun multiplayer into an all-time classic”, and that while ”it’s still fun, loads of it in fact, but only in short bursts and map repetition will sink in quickly.”
