Those hoping to get a closer look at CD Projekt’s promising futuristic RPG Cyberpunk 2077 (I count myself firmly in that bracket) may have to wait a little while longer than they’d like.
According to the company’s head of marketing and public relations Michal Platkow-Gilewski, “The first rule of Cyberpunk 2077 is that we don’t talk about Cyberpunk 2077.”
That sounds like a weird way to promote a game, right? Well what Platkow-Gilewski means is that for now, CD Projekt is firmly focused on fantasy threequel The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, on its way this May.
“On a more serious note, in short, communication-wise, we are now focusing entirely on The Witcher: Wild Hunt,” he told Gamespot. “Everyone is working crazy hard to give gamers around the world an RPG to remember. Worry not, Cyberpunk 2077 is OK, its time will come.”
Schedules have presumably been shifted due to The Witcher 3’s high-profile delay. It was originally intended to be released last year, but CD Projekt pushed it back for further bug-testing after several big titles in 2014 were released in… less than perfect condition. The game’s apparently content complete, so fingers crossed by May we’ll have a huge open fantasy world to explore, and one that actually works.
Cyberpunk 2077 meanwhile features a nonlinear story set in the futuristic metropolis of Night City. Expect advanced technology, body modification and all the juiciest tropes of cyperpunk fiction.
