Triumph Studios has released a bumper, 28-minute let’s play video for Age of Wonders 3: Eternal Lords, its upcoming fantasy 4X expansion.
Playing as the new Tigran race, our narrator makes use of some of the less aggressive options introduced in the expansion, taking the ‘Peacekeeper’ specialisation and aiming for a (mostly) non-violent victory.
For example, rather than jumping up and down on some neighbouring humans with his hobnailed boots, he decides instead to entice them into joining his empire as a vassal state. The new vassal provides trade goods and gold, and even military units in dire situations. There’s also a look at the new Race Governance system, which lets you access some powerful military or economic racial buffs if you keep a particular species happy. You’ll need to avoid aggressive expansion in favour of these more diplomatic mechanics if you want to claim the new ‘Unifier’ victory type.
Finally you can take a look at the Egyptian-themed Tigrans in battle. They focus on speedy assaults, fast-moving units that hit hard but don’t have the same staying power as the hardier races. Being a goody-two-shoes Peacekeeper also lets you use powerful Angel units, who can inspire your troops and wipe out undead units.
