The Syndicate spiritual successor Satellite Reign from 5 Lives Studios has reached an ”internal alpha milestone” that means they’re feature complete. They’ve just launched Alpha 0.6 adding The Grid as a new district.
The game has also transitioned from Unity 4 to 5, as it had features that ”ended up being essential” to development. This new Alpha is Windows and Steam only for now, and old save games won’t work.
”We’ve finally reached our internal alpha milestone. This means all of the game’s features are implemented and functional. Additionally, we’ve unlocked the next district for you to explore! It’s time to head into The Grid, home of The Eternals faction.”
Who are The Eternals? It’s a group that’s obsessed with augmenting human-beings to achieve perfection for the species. The Grid is ”clean, wealthy and futuristic” making it stand apart from the rest of the city. There are other updates introduced with Alpha 0.6.
Agents now get unique portraits to help differentiate them, and there’s a new Agent clone screen. Front-end menus have been improved too as well as mission debriefs.
”We now have access to the latest and greatest Unity has to offer. This brings the latest version of PhysX for improved physics performance, much improved profiling tools (to help Mike more efficiently squash bugs and performance hogs), improved CPU usage, and much more.”
The studio is getting ”very close to our full release” with their beta milestone ”very close behind.” Their next update will include the ”game in its entirety, allowing you to play completely from start to finish, with all districts, missions, abilities, weapons, gear, augmentations, and the final boss encounter.” It’s here they’ll go into ‘hardcore bug-fixing mode’.
