Daum Games Europe has announced that it’s working with Korean developer Pearl Abyss to bring MMO Black Desert Online to a Western audience, with a full release planned for early 2016.
You may remember Black Desert as the game which caused so much fuss in the West due to its impressively gorgeous character creation system, which lets you create a hero straight out of a big-budget animated film.
“We are putting a lot of effort in the game’s Western localization,” says Daniel Loehr (AKA Belsazar), Project Manager at Daum Games, “We are localizing approximate 2.5 million words into English, German and French. Black Desert Online’s content and gameplay sytems will be adjusted to accommodate Western players and our differentiating business model.”
A Russian edition of the game is already available, but soon European and North American audiences will be able to try out the game’s action-based RPG combat, and spend hours tweaking their character’s eyebrows to get them just right. Much like Guild Wars 2, the game’s a one-off purchase - no sub models or free-to-play here, once you buy it you’ve got access to the whole thing. The team will make their money back from vanity and cosmetic items sold in-game.
