Developer Edmund McMillen has revealed that The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth will get a new expansion pack called Afterbirth “hopefully around the middle” of this year.
Worryingly, he says that the new content, which includes a brand new game mode as well as a bunch of extra goodies, will keep players occupied for another 100 to 200 hours.
You know, in case The Binding of Isaac hasn’t kept you occupied for long enough already. Alongside 100 new items the expansion will add a playable character, regarding which we have no details just yet, and tonnes of new bosses, levels and endings.
There will also be ten new challenges, and McMillen has been seeking new ideas from the community. Amongst the top nine suggestions so far are a 2X speed mode and a mode where all your gear is reset upon entering each new room, which just proves what a bunch of masochistic sods fans of the game are.
You can also head over to Reddit to put forward your ideas about potential item combos that could be added to the game. For example, McMillen’s initial ideas include mixing the Midas Touch and Ecoli items together to get a ‘Golden Poop’. Don’t see how you could do better than that.
We’ll keep an eye out for any further news about a potential release date for Afterbirth.
