Redacted Studios announced Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma earlier this year, a sequel to its 2009 hack and slasher based on Takashi Okazaki’s cult manga.
Now the developer has released a pre-E32015 cinematic trailer with no gameplay, but with a few details regarding the game’s main plot.
Teddy-bear headed Kuma, a prominent character in the manga, will be one of several playable characters. He’s after Afro himself, believing the samurai to be responsible for the murder of his family. Whether we’ll be playing the Samuel Jackson-voiced hero himself this time around, Redacted is yet to confirm or deny. I’d imagine it’s likely, even if Jackson doesn’t handle the VO work himself.
As for core details on the game itself, they’re rather thin on the ground. We do know that each character will have several combat styles that they can upgrade, unlocking new moves and abilities.
”Each time you take down a new boss or you go through a major story element you’ll be able to add that combat chip to your combat wheel,” Redacted Studios president David Robinson revealed in a recent interview with Gamespot. “So basically the player learns all these new combat moves and adds it to their combat inventory. All these new character styles and moves can be upgraded, similar to what you’ll find in an RPG.”
Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma is set for release later this year. It will also be making an appearance as E3 rolls on this week, so we’ll check back with any new nuggets of information.
