Publisher Excalibur Games is taking a break from its usual “real-life simulation games”, such as Construction Simulator and Train Simulation, to publish a tactical shooter, CTU - Counter-Terrorism Unit. Developed by Odin Games, CTU is a spiritual successor to SWAT, where players’ number one concern is the safety of the hostages, and their goal is to attempt to subdue targets peacefully before using lethal force.
CTU will feature a dozen terrorist activities set in several locations. Player loadouts are supremely important, as they must bring the right tools for the job, including such utilities as snake cams (used to see what dangers may face you behind a closed door), the night vision goggles, riot shields and three types of grenade.”On-line multi-player and single player modes need the right judgement call in the field to determine the difference between life and death,” notes Excalibur Games.
The game is built to resemble real life situations, with the restraint expected of governmental agents and soldiers in a domestic area. As Excalibur states, ”Anyone can fire a gun, but there are only a few who can bring down a suspect with intimidating presence, and force them to lay down their weapons and surrender.” Players are ranked at how well they’re able to do the job, and get rewarded with money which can be spent on new weapons, tools and hiring new team members.
CTU - Counter-Terrorism Unit is due to be released on 25 February 2016, and will also include online multiplayer for co-operative action.
