Brian Fargo and his studio inXile Entertainment are bringing their revival of The Bard’s Tale to Kickstarter at the beginning of June, which just so happens to be 30 years since the original game.
It’s a ”true dungeon-crawling sequel” with devious puzzles and riddles to overcome, all in first-person. It’ll be bloated with callbacks to the original, and will be powered by Unreal Engine 4.
”On the 30th anniversary of the original Bard’s Tale, what better time than now to go on an adventure worthy of song? The Bard’s Tale IV will feature challenging maze-like dungeons with devious puzzles and riddles to explore in the first-person dungeon crawler style of the original trilogy. inXile has the full rights to use everything from the original trilogy, so the game will be rich with callbacks and old favorites such as teleporter zones and magic mouths.”
Dynamic phase-based combat will have us dealing with beasts, monsters and knaves, ”but with a constantly evolving enemy strategy and a pacing that keeps you on your toes.”
The Kickstarter campaign commences June 2nd for The Bard’s Tale IV.
