Crytek showed off some of what the Oculus Rift VR headset could do with a Back to Dinosaur tech demo that put the player in the role of a baby Tyrannosaurus Rex, encountering mosquitoes and its gigantic mother. Now, the developer has released the demo for free.
”Back to Dinosaur Island shows how intense, involving and rich virtual reality can be,” stated the developer’s director of production David Bowman, who added, ”Players will see a powerful dinosaur breathing inches from their face, getting an unprecedented sense of its immense scale. To watch this scene in 2D is impressive, but when you’re in virtual reality, it becomes more intimate, and more exciting – giving you a feeling of presence and a belief that you’re really right there in a way that no other medium can.”
The demo debuted at GDC 2015, and the demo that Crytek has released is compatible with Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 models and later. Players can download the demo here.
For those of you who don’t have the Oculus Rift VR headset or just want to see what the demo is like, Crytek posted a video of gameplay. The only difference is that those mosquitoes won’t appear to be flying in directly front of your face.
