According to the LinkedIn profile of the game’s associate producer, Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Victory will contain ”innovative asynchronous gameplay”. That’s presumably a fancy way of saying that the game will contain multiplayer in which two or more players have a markedly different experience.
You could call something like Evolve asynchronous, for example; four players are hunters with guns, one is a slavering tentacle beast. Daniel Palix’s profile page does mention however that the mode is ”unconfirmed”, so there’s a chance it might be an unused prototype system.
Set in Victorian London, Victory was leaked by Kotaku last year. It’s not technically been announced by Ubisoft yet, but the huge amount of screens that surfaced basically confirm it anyway. Ubisoft Quebec are taking the franchise reigns over from Ubisoft Montreal this time around.
It’s a big title for Ubisoft and the franchise in general, considering the colossal backlash against Unity. On a positive note, the company rebounded from the hugely disappointing Assassin’s Creed 3 with the excellent Black Flag - there’s a precedent for the next big leap forward in the series being a bit rubbish, before a follow-up game irons out the creases and builds upon the good ideas.
Expect a probable E3 announcement for Victory this June.
