Developer Ys Net, headed by series creator Yu Suzuki, is sounding a bit less confident that the highly-anticipated Shenmue 3 will be ready for its intended holiday 2017 release date.
In a post on the game’s Kickstarter campaign page today, the team warns that while the budget and schedule is in place to hit that date, the nature of development means that they can’t say with certainty that it will happen.
”A rigorous budget and schedule has been worked out with our production team and we believe our target of 2017 holiday season is within reach,” reads the post. ”That said, our goal is to make the best game possible (and one that the fans want!) so please understand the schedule may change as the project evolves. Frequent updates will be posted on the Update page.”
Hey, fans have been waiting almost fifteen years for a new installment, I’m sure they won’t begrudge a few more delays. Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter campaign is currently fully funded and sitting pretty on just over $3.5 million, and several new stretch goals have been unlocked; mostly, they consist of new quests and minigames to take part in the village of Baikan, one of the game’s main locations.
