Minsk-based indie Weappy Studio is currently running a Kickstarter campaign for This is the Police, which blends an interactive visual adventure with strategy. We play police chief Jack Boyd in his last 180 days before retirement.
We’ll have to manage Freeburg PD, deal with party-hard officers, a corrupt Mayor and his cronies, student protesters, major criminal gangs and the prospects of scheming our own ‘big score’.
This strategy adventure is asking for a modest $25,000 and thankfully it’s got the pledges it needs with just under 3 days left on the clock. Stretch goals include Linux and Mac support at $30k, as well as a ‘Million Dollar Challenge Mode’. There’s still plenty of time so it could make it.
Actor Jon St. John of Duke Nukem fame will be voicing Jack Boyd. While we haven’t seen much in the way of actual gameplay in action, Weappy has been teasing Freeburg Tribune issues; giving us a taste of the situations we’ll be finding ourselves in as police chief Boyd.
”The campaign is a success. We are on fire,” posted the studio. ”Now the stuff gets serious - we get to make a game proper. On behalf of our team I’d like to thank you again for the trust and dedication. It is essential when you’re doing a project about blackmailing and some shady business. You reached out and helped us - and we can’t fail you now.”
Team17 has announced they’re to publish. Check out This is the Police Kickstarter for more.
