The sequel to Lords of the Fallen is going in a somewhat different direction than the original, announces CI Games, with a greater focus on ”building a richer story,” which the first didn’t do so well on.
Meanwhile the project’s executive producer Tomasz Gop, formerly of CD Projekt RED and The Witcher series, has left the project following their ”different visions” for the follow-up RPG.
”We’re grateful for his input, but we have different visions for further development of the series and Tomasz will not be a part of CI Games’ progress,” the studio said, reports Eurogamer.
”We want to reach a wider audience for this game. That’s why we’re building a richer story. We’re aware that these aspects could’ve been better in first game, so the story is a big point of the sequel, along with robust fighting system. We want to bring something fresh to RPG games.”
Gop sent an email to Eurogamer confirming the announcement made by CI Games. Presently he’s still employed at the developer but is taking time to figure out his next move, likely with another studio.
”I want to respect CI’s will to keep that between me and them,” he said, referring to the reasons for parting ways. ”I wanted all the best for Lords but there’s going to be someone else leading the project and we’ll see if it will make it more successful than I could.”
We reviewed Lords of the Fallen and while we enjoyed its challenging combat, it had rather ”dull story and characters” that kept it from achieving greatness.
Lords of the Fallen 2 is scheduled for release in 2017 and enters full production later this year.
