Caffeine is a game in which you explore a ship that mines coffee from space. I am assuming that developer Dylan Browne has a spectacularly plausible lore explanation as to how and why that happens.
More than that though, it’s a game about exploring creepy sci-fi environments in first-person, and creeping yourself out while doing so.
“Caffeine is a quirky psychological horror adventure game with an atmosphere heavily inspired by games like Condemned, FEAR and Outlast,” explains the developer. “Set in the near future, the entire population of Earth is vigorously addicted to coffee. Once Earth’s caffeine reserves are depleted, the largest of the corporations build massive lumbering space ships with the sole purpose of seeking out the minerals needed to synthesize artificial caffeine.”
When you say it like that it seems so reasonable. You wake up on board one of those vessels with amnesia, and must explore your surroundings to find out what’s going on. Browne has just confirmed to PCGamesN that the first episode in Caffeine’s three-part story will be released this October.
