Independent UK developer Rebellion announced during the Oculus Connect 2 Developer Conference that their remake of the classic coin-op arcade game Battlezone would have a VR mode for Oculus Rift headset.
The game was an obvious game to make a VR game, since the original arcade game used a binocular overlay to make the vector graphics seem to be more 3D than they actually were, but the developer couldn’t confirm any VR support for the game til now.
According to Rebellion’s co-founders Jason and Chris Kingsley, “The Battlezone arcade machine was an inspiration not just for my brother and me, but for a whole generation of developers. When Facebook kicked off their VR segment of the F8 conference, the original 1980 Battlezone was the game they opened with – it’s that important in gaming history.”
The Oculus Rift is due to debut in Q1 2016.
