Overwatch’s latest beta is over and one can only imagine it will go towards continuing to make the game into the best experience possible when it comes out next year. However, in answer to recent beta feedback, higher-ups in the development staff offered uncertainty at whether or not ranked matchmaking will be available in the game at its launch.
The topic of discussion, made by one “Ruwin”, brought up many concerns about UI fixes and possible customization. One of the major points of the post was whether or not ranked matches or match making ratio would be implemented in the game. Further down the topic, Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan responded to address all queries of the original post, including the ranked topic.
“We’re very excited about a ranked play mode,” says Kaplan. “If this feature does not make launch, it will be one that we focus on post-launch.” Interesting to note that the team apparently is not certain that ranked matches will be a definite feature of the final release when the game does eventually launch, despite the fact that there is no concrete knowledge of the launch date other than a note that was left in the fine print of pre-order advertisement mentioning that the game will come out “on or before” June 21st, 2016.
Either way, there was a definite promise that ranked matchmaking is certainly on the cards for Overwatch. It’s just a questionable matter of when, and Kaplan and his team don’t seem prepared to commit just yet.
Overwatch will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Spring 2016.
