After having its Kickstarter announced at the tail end of last month, developer ArtCraft Entertainment have today announced that not only has their ambitious MMORPG Crowfall reached its funding goal; it has surpassed it by more than double the required amount.
The final total stood at $1,766,205 which makes it the 15th most funded videogame ever on Kickstarter. That total does not include the PayPal contributions that will continue to roll in, either.
Speaking excitedly about the successful funding in a Kickstarter update, the Crowfall team were both humble and eager to make good on their promises stating, “Thank you for making Crowfall a reality. We won’t let you down. We’re going to show the world a new kind of online experience.”
Built by a team with experience in creating relatively niche MMORPG experiences, the developer was keen to impart that they won’t comprise the game’s uniqueness, “And we continue to seek out our kind. Crowfall isn’t a game for everyone. But there are still players out there - brave, lost, and arguably crazy - who will share this vision. Who, like us, will have to see it come to life. We need to find them, and bring them home.”
With a development heritage of such PvP focused MMO titles as Ultima Online and the under-appreciated Shadowbane under their belts, it’s clear that Crowfall won’t be just another MMO.
Indeed, the current plan is for Crowfall to keep receiving additional funding while the game is released in various chunks and modules; in very similar capacity to how Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen currently exists.
And well, that arrangement seems to be working just fine for those guys.
As a result, folks who missed Crowfall’s Kickstarter gravy train can still get a piece of the action by pledging towards the game at the official site.
Crowfall is tentatively set to release at the end of 2016, but given the game’s massive scope I would certainly expect it to slip.
