After a community manager for developer Cloud Imperium Games released a screenshot for Star Citizen containing a partial URL, the internet inevitably clunked into gear.
Someone guessed the rest of the link, and boom… despite CIG quickly shutting down the link, 48GB of work in progress assets have already been downloaded and shared across the web.
Space sim Star Citizen is being developed in a modified version of the Cryengine, so Youtube is rife with videos of people uploading those WIP assets into Crytek’s engine to gawp at them in all their barely-finished wonder. CIG is presumably none too happy about this, but the Kraken’s been unleashed already, unfortunately.
You can see a sample of the leaked assets above, showing off a WIP version of the Bengal carrier. Aside from some missing textures, I’d say those big capital ships are looking pretty damned solid. You’ll be able to walk around in that! And land ships. And use the vending machines. Probably.
The studio’s yet to officially respond to the leak. What they HAVE been happy to discuss recently is Star Marine, the game’s FPS module. Head through ]the link for the full run-down on the ground shooting portion of CIG’s wildly ambitious (it should be, with a budget of over $80 million) “First Person Universe”.
