Fans and players worldwide have been dreaming of the day when Square Enix will pull the trigger on a remake of the JRPG classic Chrono Trigger. That day may still be far off with consideration of the high profile projects Square Enix has on the horizon, but at the very least, one fan took a shot at re-imagining what one part of a Chrono Trigger remake might look like today.
Youtube user praetus reportedly created everything that can be seen in the video below in Unreal 4, including objects and textures. It’s a rather awesome looking little build of the iconic environment that stages the beginning events of the classic game that easily reminds of the art styles and colors of current Dragon Quest games.
Chrono Trigger came out originally on the Super Nintendo in 1995. It has since been rated on “Best of” lists numerous times since its initial release, been ported over to DS and PS1, received a sequel in PS1’s Chrono Cross and moved millions of units worldwide. The game has left a definite legacy on many current RPGs for its innovative mechanics and design.
Regardless, with Final Fantasy VII’s remake and the newest iteration, Final Fantasy XV among the numerous high-profile projects on Square Enix’s forthcoming schedule, artistic creations like those of praetus’ work may have to be what fans have to settle for, at least for now.
