Developer Starbreeze Studios is super chuffed with their latest fiscal report for Q2, with heist shooter Payday 2 performing better in sales than last year’s Q2.
They’re ”very proud” of this ”very rare” occurrence within the games industry, and the company is ”getting close to the opening” of their new Los Angeles office, which will host the Geminose team.
Net sales of SEK 47.7 million ($5.75 million) have been reported this Q2, compared to last year of the same period which had SEK 40.1 million. Payday 2 specifically brought in net sales of SEK 45.4 million.
”The office will house the Geminose team, as well as an in-sourced team of developers hired to develop Payday 2 updates and participate in the Overkill’s The Walking Dead project. We’ve managed to find several experienced developers well versed in the gaming industry to join us on the continued journey,” CEO Bo Andersson Klint told investors.
Starbreeze has also appointed Sebastian Ahlskog as the new CFO, while Ursula Bende will serve as Financial Controller. It’s great to see an independent studio staying strong, and earlier this year they sold the IP rights of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons to publisher 505 Games for $500k.
