The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been around since 2011, and players have enjoyed the main storyline for years. However, there are a few who wish they could just skip the entire Dragonborn quest and just explore and enjoy the world without it. A new major mod by “chinagreenelvis”, Skyrim Unbound, allows the player to do just that.
Skyrim Unbound allows players to skip the opening sequence and decide whether or not they want to play as the Dragonborn. Players no longer have to obtain the Dragonstone for Farengar or defeat Mirmulnir for the Jarl of Whiterun, and for those who decide to complete the Dragonborn main quest, all they have to do is absorb a dragon soul so they can be summoned to High Hrothgar by the Greybeards.
Since the main quest is nullified at the start, players can choose their starting weapons, gear, spells, character class, and birthsign, then select what starting location they will have; they can choose from any hold, city, town, or inn. Since the Dragonborn quest isn't enforced on the player, the mod allows them to toggle dragons, random dragon spawns, dragon soul absorption, and shouts. Players can even start as a vampire or werewolf.
One of the benefits of having the opening questline bypassed is that it will allow players to immediately jump into the Civil War questline, and being Dragonborn is no longer required to complete the Civil War.
To preserve the illusion that the Dragonborn quest doesn't exist, NPCs no longer refer to the player as the Dragonborn if they haven't opted to start the questline, and the player won't have to discuss the attack on Helgen either.
Skyrim Unbound can be found on Nexus Mods here. The appropriate instructions for installation can be found on the mod's page as well.
