Obsidian has announced the next product set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, though it might not quite be what you were expecting; the studio is partnering with Zero Radius to bring physical card game Pillars of Eternity: Lords of the Eastern Reach to market.
As long as it passes a $30,000 Kickstarter goal, that is. That looks very likely, considering it’s already reached $20,000 with another 34 days still left to go.
Lords of the Eastern Reach is a deck-building game in the style of Magic: The Gathering, in which you have to defend a city using cards depicting various heroes, factions, locations and more found in the excellent fantasy RPG. The game’s for 2-4 players, and each match will last around thirty minutes.
I’m not going to list the rules and intricacies of the game here, for obvious reasons, but you can find out all the information you need on the campaign page. Pledging at least $39 will earn you a copy of the base game, which is set for release in February 2016.
It’s not the expansion pack fans of the game were hoping for (though we do know that one is on the way), but it’s a sign that Obsidian sees the universe of Pillars as one worth expanding cross-media.
