The fellows who created the most popular XCOM: Enemy Within mod, Long War, have announced they won’t be making any mods for XCOM 2, and instead will be developing their own game, Terra Invicta, which they plan to launch on Kickstarter at some point.
The studio, named Long War Studios, describes Terra Invicta as a grand strategy version of XCOM. ”An alien force has arrived in the far reaches of Solar System and begun probing Earth’s defenses and building an invasion fleet,” according to the new developer, ”The player must assemble a council of scientists, politicians, military leaders and operatives who can unite Earth’s squabbling nations with the ultimate goal of taking the fight to the aliens in the high ground of outer space.”
For those unfamiliar with the Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Evolved, it stretches out the length of a game campaign, but unlike the Marathon mod, it doesn’t make it harder. Rather, it adds new game mechanics, such as being able to reconquer countries that have given up on XCOM, adds new classes for both regular soldiers and MECs,new UFO classes, new psionics, a new fatigue system forcing players to have a deeper roster, more voices for soldiers, and more Foundry projects, among other additions. Even lead designer Jack Solomon praised the mod, stating, ”We’re basically a 20-hour tutorial for Long War, and that’s okay.”
No information save the brief description is available for Terra Invicta. Expect more info when the Kickstarter launches.
